Senior Goodbye

  • Freshman year, made 1 out of 6 show blocks. I ushered every show just to go to stars and I barely would pass theatre production every six weeks.
  • Sophomore things turned around but were bumpy/ didn't even make the ballot
  • Junior year even had some bumps
  • Senior year finally turned around
  • If you're struggling, just know that you aren't the only person who has ever struggled in this company
  • Joined Newspaper Senior year and was handed an editor position but I didn't even want it but now I love it.
  • Funny because I worked my butt off for an officer position and roles in shows while I join another program and am handed something my first day that someone else could have really wanted.
  • Advice: Do work hard for the things you want but also be open to other opportunities bc they might come easier to you. Either way work hard and find things you love to do. Life is weird that way and it may seem unfair but not everything can come easy.
  • If you work hard in the company, you'll get at least a little something out of it I am almost certain.
  • Stop talking bad about peoples acting/singing. Every single person is talented in here and don't forget that.  Say good things about each others acting. Don't make yourself look bad by saying mean things about other people. Be humble.
  • Just remember you are part of one the most accepting group of kids I know. Everybody is so unique in here, yet we all put our differences aside and accept each other. I love that.
  • You all are so lucky to have a place to go in the morning and at lunch, not everybody has that!
  • I have had my fair share of being negative bc I'm chorus or a small role. but it wasn't worth it bc I was missing out on having fun. So whatever part you may be, even if you're an understudy, just have fun bc at the end of day you're surrounded by awesome people

11. Can we do this for events on our campus on a daily basis?
No.
12. How can you help make this a reality?
Get more input from the students body. Finally,

It's reflection time. Please write at least two paragraphs on the following prompts on your blog:

13. What is the most important thing you have learned this semester being on newspaper staff?
I have learned how to communicate with others. I think the only way to make a good story is with good interviews, and to get those, one has to be a good communicator. Every time I go and interview I feel more comfortable and relaxed. My communicating has become better which has made my interviews stronger. This skill is also going to help me with whatever I do in life.

14. What can you do next semester to continue your scholastic journalism career in a fulfilling and positive way?
I think I can work harder to find out what things are going on in the school and what people are interesting and worth writing about. There are lots of clubs and people that deserve a voice and I want to be able to give those people the chance to be in the paper. I hope I can write stories that will impact the school and I can leave my mark.

15. What suggestions do you have to improve any part of this class? For example, you could address editor/staff relations, editor/editor relations, staff relations with the advisor, how we can better serve our community, direct suggestions on the newspaper itself, equipment or supplies we might need, computer program instructions you need, or even stories we should cover. I am open to anything. Part of my job is to make this a positive experience, yet it is also an educational opportunity for all of you and the other part of my job is to teach you new skills.
I think that as a staff, we don't know all of each other as well as we should. We did bonding at the beginning of the year which was fun but we didn't continue and I think we kind of lost it. This lack of closeness leads to the problem of us not communicating when we need something. I think we can feel hesitant or nervous to talk to someone about issues they're having with completing an assignment. We should be as open as possible, because then it might save us from a lot of last minute "I didn't get the photos" or "I didn't get my story in". If we are honest and communicative, we could stop a lot of issues before they become worse.
